about

Whether he’s out the front of beloved alt pop masters Red Jezebel, or sharing the reins of country rockers the Ghost Hotel, Paul Wood’s songs have been some of WA’s most treasured for over twenty years.

Now, Wood’s debut solo project Good news, now we can eat all the vampires, sees him go more introverted. Last year saw him drop an EP under this long winded moniker, self produced in his home studio built during this recent time of lockdowns and isolation.

Stepping away from the chaos that was "EP1" in 2021, Woody has made a return to form - leaning toward his previously lyric driven style of song writing, imagery and arrangements with new track Aviary. The song is a candid and carefully driven trip through the peaks and dips of an emotional rollercoaster ride.

“…emphasising the potent songwriting that's stayed central to his work over the years and mashing it together with this kind-of alt-pop-y tone; a wide-ranging spectrum of sound and genres coming together with an intricacy you can only expect from someone so well-versed in
musicality.”
Hayden Davies, Pilerats (on EP1)

lyrics

I just built an aviary
because I've been keeping birds inside my home
and every day around breakfast
things get a little crazier than I'd hoped
I don't need to hide them, there's no reason to
but I require them for my ascension
I pray over their wings, even though I don't hold faith
don't be so surprised with me when I fly up and away
watch me dive!
watch me turn!
see me go!
